New Mom items - collage of images.

After the initial few weeks following Chloe’s arrival, I finally felt the urge to be a functioning human being again. All of you Mamas out there know exactly what I mean, am I right? 😉 I was starting to feel better physically after delivery, and was getting some longer stretches of sleep. I also was able to relax more and ease into my new “normal” as a new Mom. Finally, I felt motivated to dress better and put on some makeup. (OK, only occasionally with the makeup 😉 ) It’s amazing how much better things get after those initial couple weeks of survival mode!

Six days into new-parenthood! Just trying to survive. 🙂

My only issue with wanting to wear something other than yoga pants and milk-stained t-shirts was that…none of my pre-pregnancy clothes fit quite yet. I also did NOT want to wear my maternity clothes any more. Truly, is there anything more depressing for a new Mom? They fit me awkwardly while I was in that in-between phase of weight loss.

Enter: Amazon. (Seriously, though, when is Amazon NOT the answer to life’s problems?!) I’ve always preferred shopping online because it’s just so easy. It was even more appealing postpartum because we weren’t able to bring Chloe out yet (and let’s be honest, even if we could…I had no interest in leaving my house quite yet…#postpartumhibernation). I also didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg for for these temporary wardrobe pieces.

Here are the handful of random items I purchased in the weeks following Chloe’s birth that I absolutely recommend to ALL new Moms. They’re mostly things specifically for Mom, with one household item thrown in there that will make Mom’s life easier, so it’s a win-win 🙂

Levi pull on jeans.

1. Signature by Levi Strauss & Co. Gold Label Women’s Totally Shaping Pull-On Skinny Jeans

I didn’t have a single pair of jeans that fit me, and that made getting out of the yoga pants extra challenging. I had no interest in wearing “real” jeans (Zippers? Buttons? No thanks!) After browsing the jegging options on Amazon, I found these Levi pull-on jeans. All I have to say is…never underestimate the power of a (hidden) elastic waistband. Seriously, I may never go back to regular jeans again. These are amazing and have the perfect amount of stretch. You would never know that they’re pretty much upscale jeggings, because they look like real jeans. My only complaint is that they don’t have front pockets. However, I am willing to do without them for the sake of how comfy these are. I ordered these in a size 10 (two sizes up from my usual size).

2. Amazon Essentials 2-Pack Classic Fit Short Sleeve V-Neck T-Shirt

These shirts have been lifesavers. I love them so much that I’ve already bought three packs, and plan on buying more. 😉 They have the perfect amount of stretch, can be casual or dressed up, and wash well (I’ve pretty much worn them constantly since I bought them earlier this year, and they’re showing no signs of wear.) I have always been super picky about the clinginess of my shirts, and generally prefer a more relaxed, loose fit. I bought these in an XL (I washed and dried them them before wearing them to shrink them a bit) and the fit is perfect for me right now.

3. VIV Collection Leggings Yoga Waistband (Black)

Okay, I know the point of my post-baby shopping spree was to get me OUT of leggings, but I just had to throw these in there because they’re so amazing. I have two pairs of these leggings (both in black) and they are buttery soft, and have the most flattering, slimming waistband (Note: From my understanding, the only option to feature the full panel waistband is the black color).

Throughout my pregnancy, I actually wore them in the Plus size, and I now wear the One Size (0-12). I never put them in the dryer, and wear them very (okay, too) often, and they’ve taken several months to start showing wear. For $13.99, these are so worth it.

4. AtRenee Tummy Control Shapewear Body Shaper for Women

There will come a day postpartum where you need to get dressed up…maybe for your baby’s Baptism? Or to attend a wedding? Or perhaps you and your partner just decided that it’s time for your first fancy date night out, just the two of you. Whatever it is, I promise you that you’ll feel so much more comfortable and put together with a good piece of shapewear on.

I didn’t usually wear shapewear during my pre-pregnancy days (hah! My, how times have changed!) but since my body is different as a new Mom, this little number does wonders for smoothing out lumps and bumps. I also found it to be breathable, and it does not roll down at all. Check the sizing on this one, as the sizes are a bit different than usual. I was a size 10 at the time I purchased this, which put me at a size XXL (XXL for this item covers sizes 10-14). I found the fit to be great.

5. Vanity Fair Women’s Beauty Back Strapless Underwire Bra

Speaking of shapewear, another thing you will most likely need as a new Mom is a new bra. This was one of the biggest bummers for me, since my pre-baby bra collection is quite extensive. 🙂 It’s easy to find everyday bras, but harder to find a strapless bra. I needed one for the dress I wore to Chloe’s baptism, and was SO happy when I found this one. The best part is that it fit true to size, so I didn’t have to deal with exchanges, etc. I ordered it in a size 38C in the Rose Beige color. It stayed up perfectly all day long, didn’t flatten the girls out like some other strapless bras do, and it is pretty inexpensive at only $23. Such a steal!

6. Maybelline Makeup Instant Age Rewind Concealer Dark Circle Eraser Concealer

I have never been much of a makeup person, but I’ve always secretly wished I was. How the heck do some women make themselves look so flawless in like, five minutes?! I made it my goal to get better with makeup knowledge and application after Chloe was born, and this started with putting out a call to my friends about the best concealer that wouldn’t break the bank. Several mentioned this under eye circle eraser, and it has not disappointed!

I’ve struggled with having bags under my eyes for my whole life, and they only got worse after I became a new Mom. This concealer has been amazing, and it truly does work! At less than $8, it’s super affordable. And for a makeup-novice like me, it’s very easy to apply – all you do is swipe it on like a marker, then blend. I wear it in the Medium color. (My friends also recommended a new spot concealer, and this has worked really well for me also! I wear it in the 25 Medium shade.)

7. Puracy Natural Baby Laundry Stain Remover, Hypoallergenic, Safe, Free & Clear

I already have an entire post in the Family section detailing this stain remover, so feel free to read all of the details there! Laundry stain remover is so not glamorous, but trust me when I say that this product will make your life so much easier as a new Mom. Gone are the days of having to try to scrub out tough stains…you just spray this on the fabric, let it sit for a bit, and then wash it in your washing machine as you regularly would. It will also save you money in the long run, since you won’t need to throw stained items away. Besides the fact that this works incredibly well on tough stains, my favorite aspect is that it’s non-toxic and free of harmful ingredients, so I feel comfortable using it on Chloe’s clothes, blankets, etc.

What are other must-have Amazon items for new Moms?

  1. As a mom of three, I completely understand that frustrating time between maternity and regular clothes! These look like great suggestions for that in between time. Anything that allows you to feel comfortable but ‘put together’ would’ve been on my list 🙂

  2. This is so helpful! I agree that as a new mom there’s so much to learn and it’s helpful you’ve set up links for everything So I don’t have to do as much work!

  3. ugh I’m such a slacker and opposite lol. I’m almost 3 months postpartum and still wearing some of my maternity clothes*face palm* I’ve had eight babies and three of those csections and really need to get back on the exercise train lol. So those frumpy clothes are comfy. They don’t really look frumpy but you know what I mean, I hope. I need to take a page out of your book, though and add a few new things.

  4. I love this!!! I definitely can relate to that post baby feeling of wanting to wear “normal” clothes again! I definitely want to try that stain remover too!
